Let Your Light Shine

I combined one of my favorite quotes with a favorite photo from this past summer, and I think it makes for a Pinterest-worthy pin. But I'm biased, so you tell me what you think!

This quote sums up how I strive to live my life. It's common to scroll through Facebook and see the subtle attention-seeking posts, comments, or shared photos (okay, sometimes it's not that subtle either). I'll admit there have been times that I've been guilty of it too. So often, especially today, we think that if we structure the perfect argument and are able to counter every point by the opposition, we are winning. That if we speak louder, we will somehow silence others.

I don't think that's true.

Now, I believe everyone is entitled to their opinion and should be able to freely share it, even when it's a viewpoint you don't agree with. If you truly hold fast to your worldview, other's words are not what will tear it down. In fact, I think it more edifying to actually listen to other's points of views. You don't have to agree with it, but at the very least, have the respect to open your ears and listen to hear, not to retaliate.

Or perhaps that isn't our goal, but instead we want to draw attention to ourselves. We want to be noticed.
"Look at me, look at me! I'm such a good person," we'll say smugly as we unfold our list of outstanding qualities.

However, I have more respect for those who can live a life so bright and overflowing with genuineness, there is no need for them to even define it. There is no need to say anything at all, because their very essence and way of living says it all.

I want to be that person.
I want to have every action, word, and thought that escapes me to reflect the love of my Savior. It is not a self-serving love, but one that seeks to serve others. My desire is to have it infiltrate throughout my very being till every instinct is not my own, but His.

This probably sounds creepy to those not familiar with "Christian-ese" and I can't blame you.
Just know I mean it from a genuine heart, and I hope to grow in my faith in a way that shows this.

If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I am a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal. And if I have prophetic powers, and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have all faith, so as to remove mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. If I give away all I have, and if I deliver up my body to be burned, but have not love, I gain nothing.
I Corinthians 13:1-3

Much love,
Linda

AAAAhhh dude,we're all guilty of craving attention on facebook and in life, I don't know if it's a nature thing that we are this way or society thing....But, absolutely agree on what you said, I know of some people who have exceptionally extraordinary lives, but can't be bothered to shout them around the world cause they don't fucking care. I've also noticed many people like to point out the difficult situations they faced during life and how they were able to overcome them and how much harder their life is compared to someone else, it's like a freaking competition. -_-

We're now in a society that expects us to share EVERYTHING! HaHaHa It's horrible. I do it to a point and then I stop. I love helping others and you're right! Do it genuinely without boasting about it. It goes a lot further.

I definitely get what you mean. You shouldn't have to feel the need to go on the defensive or attack someone else for thinking differently than you. I have many friends or relatives that don't have the same beliefs as me and that's ok. Just respect one another and grow together. You might learn something new, see something in a new light or simply strengthen what you already hold dear.

Love this design! And what you wrote. I think that we as humans are very much selfish beings and therefore tend to lean towards attention seeking in some fashion or another. It is brought out a lot on social media today. I am guilty of it just as much as anyone else. I think it is good to open your ear and step away from all the shouting as you said. Listening is becoming a lost art.
