Style Evolution: How Blogging Has Changed My Style

It's been quite the journey since I started blogging (all the way back in 2011!? What!?), and today I thought I'd reflect on how this adventure has changed me. Let's just say, it wasn't without its bumps, bruises, and fashion disasters...

2011
How many times can Linda pose in front of her white balcony fence? Answer: infinitely.
2011 was the year I started blogging, and I had no clue what the eff I was doing. Lighting? Camera settings? Background? Fashion? Whaaaa?

Haha, but blogging was a good way to discover style and document my journey in trying to obtain it. Plus, the high school I went to had a strict dress code, hence why I had to conform my ideals of fashion to theirs. It was rough, but I made it! Anyways, let's scurry past 2011, shall we? *all but shoves everyone to scroll down and stop looking at the above outfits*

2012
Things start looking better in 2012, and during that time, I feel like my blog was at its all time high as far as views and comments go. Good ole Trendy Teal was doing so well. Not to mention I finally started realizing what looked good in an outfit. This was a transition year from high school to college, and during that time, I was a lot more playful with my wardrobe since I finally had the freedom to dress however I liked without worrying a teacher would whip out a ruler and make sure my skirt was long enough...

2013
Ah yes, 2013. This was the year I feel that I started developing a sense for fashion. Outfits came together more easily and my photography improved vastly. Though I had no definite, personal style yet, I was figuring it out. I was still being influenced by everything I saw and was imitating trends.

2014
This past year, things finally came together. I've fallen in love with the beauty of simplicity combined with quirky and interesting details. Basic pieces weaved together with intriguing accessories are what make an outfit stand out in all the right ways. I'm still learning, and I definitely shouldn't say anything that limits what I wear, but I think I'm figuring out what I like.

Cheers to 2015 being the most stylish yet!

What did you think of this post? Which year made you laugh the most? Haha, tell me in the comments below your thoughts!

Oh hun, I look back at some of my earlier outfits and I want to roll my eyes into my head permanently. I totally understand about the strict dress-code thing and, considering that it looks like you had a lot of the same restrictions I had to have, I think you did pretty well in good old 2011. :D

I feel like your style really came together in 2014. I know that sounds like a cop-out, but the early 20's is the time where you really develop a sense of self and I think you become WAY more comfortable in your skin.

love,
a

It's funny, I think you've always had a distinct style! It's evolved over the years, of course, but I see the love for quirky and interesting details (layers, colors, textures, patterns) all throughout.

This is such an interesting post !I've loved following along! I remember your trendy teal days :)

I think I should do something like this - reflect back, as my style has changed a lot too. I think (with the benefit of being able to critique through photos) I'm getting better at finding things that look good on me. I'm also getting much better at saying "yes it looks pretty, but it's not me" or "it's not comfortable" and letting pieces go. Like you said though, it's always a process and it will be interesting if you do this again in another few years, to see what you've learnt! :)

Honestly I love all of the years! :-D You had a sense of style from the beginning, even if you didn't quite know what exactly it was. Blogging has helped me so much, my first years I was oblivious to everything, had some massive fashion victim moments too :-D I think it's a never ending learning process.

It's interesting to take a look back, you really have come a long ways - it's crazy to think that's been five years! This past year you seemed like you were really confident in what your style and voice was, the last block of pictures has a very cohesive look to it. I think you did better than me with your evolution though, none of those pictures look painfully terrible at all but more like you just had a lot of fun with your clothes. I love the colors you've been wearing lately, they look so dramatic with your new hair color!
