Let's Get Real: Face Your Fears

"I'm regretting all my life decisions right now...I did not sign up for this when I joined Senate!" I hollered down at my fellow Senators.

Why was I hollering down? That would be because I was currently wavering 50 feet above them at the top of a telephone pole I'd scurried up for our ropes course challenge. That's right, as a "bonding experience" we had all headed out to our college's challenge course which contained high elements. One of which was where two people partnered up, climbed up 50 feet, and then proceeded to slide out onto thick wires. From there, we were to trust each other and grasp each other's hands and lean against each other for balance as we slowly slid parallel to each other across a thin length of rope. Like so:
I was the last one to go, but I am proud to say that I at least did it. The girl I partnered with was such a champ. She encouraged me to go in the first place, as did everyone else, and she even consoled me by saying, "Hey, let's get at least two steps out and then we can just fall and let them lower us down." Nervously, I agreed, and once we got up there, we started singing the Cups song to placate our fears. When we hit the line "You're gonna miss me when I'm gone," I had to start laughing because of the view I was currently faced with - my wobbly feet shaking on a wire strung high above the ground.

However, I faced my fear of heights and won! Well, at least mostly...gravity only took over about halfway across. But thank goodness for harnesses, eh? Haha, as we were lowered down slowly, feeling began seeping back into my fingers and I could feel my heart still racing along. As I looked back up at the wire I had just been on, I felt the giddy after effects of adrenaline linger on. I had done that! I had really done it!
Some of the gals and I posing afterwards. Then we got photobombed by Matt...sigh.
All in all, it was such an amazing time together with new friends!
So if you want a relationship-strengthening activity, try scaling up 50 feet and learn to trust each other. :)

Aw, I'm so proud of you for facing your fears and being brave! This summer I jumped off a cliff in Costa Rica and although it was terrifying, I have never felt more alive!
