Trail of Roses

Bustier: c/o Eikosi Style   Skirt & Heels: Rue 21   Hat: JcPenney   Necklace: Claires

I feel like that last photo sums up what it's like being interested in fashion in my small town. Bernie's looking at me like most of the people around here do: "Where does she think she is?"

So what if I enjoy pairing bustiers with high waisted skirts? So what if I like wearing my ridiculously huge floppy hat out? So what if I happen to enjoy tall shoes? When I dress up like this, I'm not actively searching out attention. My intention is not this at all. Merely, I am dressing for myself - I enjoy being creative and putting together something that makes me feel unique and confident. I'm tired of seeing the same thing on everyone and seeing it worn the same way. You're only young once, now's the time to be eclectic and experimental with your style!

When people ask me where I get things, I feel like I constantly reply, "Online." Seriously, to find the most unique and stand out pieces, try searching online shops! This lace-back bustier is from my newest sponsor, Eikosi Style. They have a good selection of basic wardrobe pieces with fun details and prints! I've been wanting to add more bustier-styled tops to my wardrobe, mainly because it's something that looks so cool with high waisted pieces. Also, who else can't believe this skirt is from Rue 21? For $3 on the clearance rack? SCORE.

Anyway, yesterday was the start of leadership retreat here at my college. All the councils, like Senate, Program Board, Ambassadors, etc. get together to find out more about our roles and learn values like teamwork, cooperation, communication, and all that jazz. The activities were fun yesterday since we went to the ropes course that was nearby to start off the day. Then today we're having two speakers before heading off to hang out at the nearby lake for some bonding time. Should be fun! Although afterwards I have to work a 7 hour shift...sigh. It's going to be a long day friends. Hope yours is a good one!

Wow you are gorgeous! I love the bright colors!! A lot of people don't understand the art of dressing. You have it down, though!
Sounds like you're having an awesome weekend :)

What, $3?!! I was just going to say how freaking gorgeous that skirt was! Wow. And I love the floppy hat with this, you look super chic and high fashion ;) I totally feel the same way around here. I'm always sticking out like a sore thumb but hey, I like expressing myself and being unique!

I hope that your work shift went by super fast, Linda! It sounds like it was a busy day indeed. I know that feel, though. We college folk are busy little bees... and you especially, being on the Senate, Miss Council Lady. :D :D

I loathe when people think dressing up is something for attention! Sometimes it's just nice to dress fun. I was totally wearing heels today and got some nasty stares from a group of older ladies today at lunch... aaah. I love that you said you're only young once because it's totally true. GOTTA DRESS UP WHILE WE CAN!

That being said, I love your clunky shoes and bustier and super duper floppy hat of radtastical awesomeness. HAVE A GOOD WEEKEND!! ! !

Oh I know what you mean! I live in a government, 9-5 kind of city; not the most fashion forward place. I swear no one ever wears a hat! You look beautiful here though, pink looks really good on you! I love the pictures with the cows, too cute.

I completely agree with your opinion on style! Why would you attempt to wear the same clothing as everyone else when what you want is to experiment with your look? Now is the time, as you said!
I adore this lovely skirt on you. Such a beautiful rose pattern! Plus you always have the best shoes. Those are killer.

I totally agree. You should dress for you and if people look, usually it's because they don't have the courage or the know how to do the same. Nice outfit.

Wear what you like dear. Fashion affects the world, whether you live in a city, work in the industry or not! You look great, the colours in the skirt are very pretty on you. xx/Madison

Love this look, so edgy and cool! Very pretty skirt, I really like the design! And I love that- dressing for yourself. Amen to that, that's like my motto! Dress for yourself, it doesn't matter what everyone else thinks.

I love what you said about only dressing for yourself- not for the attention of others. You've got such a beautiful, unique style and I love your skirt!

Oh Linda, you look absolutely gorgeous in this outfit. The color of your bustier looks amazing on you and wow! what a steal on that skirt. I totally feel you about style in a smaller town. I know my style isn't all that out of range but it's a step up especially when I wear my galaxy leggings, sparkly skirts, and spiked heels. But like you, I feel like I'm still young and just want to have fun with the way I dress!

I love this set of photos, the feild with all of the cute cows is ampretty awesome backdrop for your outfit. That maxi skirt is crazy pretty, it has such a great boho vibe and i love the sheerness with the lace along the bottom, its very speical looking. I feel you on the outfit thing, I'll wear a dress or a skirt thats not a dEnim skirt and people will ask me where i'm off to, all fancy like. Like you said you are young and live presumally only once so yeah, live it up! Wear those crazy high heels and pretty skirts and studs like only you can! ( i am so sorry about all the errors, i saw this post pop up on my phone and i couldnt wait until i go to town to comment, so im trying to type on the phone. I only hit six bottons at once!)

This is gorgeous Linda! The back details of the top looks amazing! Not the usual outfit and I like it! Keep in touch! x

oh i totally get you Linda. Ignore the people around. the world's a runway and we can wear whatever we want when we want!

i've been meaning to try some bustiers too but i think i'm still not confident enough, or at least i haven't found the perfect one for me. still in search,. the leather ones i have are too hot for the summer season. but i can't wear a bustier in winter, can i?

anyway i love that you paired yours with a maxi skirt. it balances the whole look plus that addition of that floppy hat - instant boho chic!
