Take Me to the Stars and Back

Tank: thrifted   Skirt: Romwe c/o catsuit-latex Floral Crown: c/o The Halo   Wedges: c/o My Hot Shoes   Necklace: c/o Estarer
For the second floral crown I received from The Halo, I decided to go an edgier route. Its called The Heroine Halo, and I love the description of it. "there’s nothing i love more than a bold halo with an edge – literally. cream white emboldened with pink, the heroine halo is powerful but feminine." Pairing florals with galaxy print? Perhaps not a typical combination, but I like how it turned out. Also, this new skirt from Romwe is stunning! I adore the cosmic print and interesting, asymettrical design.

So keeping a fashion blog can seem shallow and vain, huh? Why is it we fill these blogs with photos upon photos of ourselves in pretty clothes? I've thought about it, and I know my reasons behind it. From elementary school through middle school, I was forced to wear a uniform - one that made me feel uncomfortable with myself. In high school, I was given a little more leeway, although I still faced a severe dress code. One that allowed only knee length skirts even when sitting, and allowed pants (not jeans) only on Fridays. I'm not even kidding.

That's when I started my blog. It was a way to be creative with my closet under such strict terms. Being able to put together clothes and accessories became a way for me to speak without saying anything. I've enjoyed developing a sense for fashion and loosing my creative instincts on my wardrobe.

It'd be so much easier to just post those pretty pictures and write a sentence or two about the clothes. However, I've always treated this blog like my journal - one that just so happens to be read by quite a few people. Originally, I'd never thought anyone would even find my blog. I remember how thrilled and shocked I was to get a single comment on a post. I've always kept my niche on the internet my little secret that only a few people I know in real life discover. However, being a blogger means you start to put yourself out there. Being sponsored by brands means you want others to know about the products you're blogging about. You start to share a little more openly, loosen up a bit, and not worry so much.

Well, I think I need to learn a balance between being honest yet discreet. I've never been very good at that. I'm an open book when I'm comfortable with someone, and unfortunately, I've become comfortable on this blog. I've shared things that have backfired and hurt others who read it. Its time I be a little smarter on this blog. While I want to continue and treat The Dragonfruit Diaries like a, well, diary, perhaps I shouldn't be quite so open about certain issues. Learning discretion is something to be valued as well.

You live and learn, that's all I can say.

Aw, Linda. There's nothing wrong with keeping your diar--I mean, blog--up like a diary! I do think you're right about not sharing *too* much, though. Some things you really just want to rant about but you can't, and I think you know when to cross that line and when not to. You're a smart lady for that, you are, and in those instants, a real life diary is best... then you can tear out the page and crumble it up once the emotions are out and done with, yeah?

Haha, I remember back in the day, too! I really love it when I see long comments, too, and it's nice to know that there are people out there who read your thoughts and respond appropriately (and with interest... like you!!). It really makes your day, doesn't it?

But gosh, I loooove this skirt of yours! Seriously, it's the prettiest galaxy print I've seen... and I love how absolutely twirly it is, too! You and your halo-esque flower crows are darling as well. Always so cute, Miss Linda, my pokemon friend!! ehehehe <3

I actually enjoy the diary blogs a lot more. If you stalk someone on the daily, it's nice to actually know them on the inside and not just their style. Though maybe it is a good idea to be a bit more discreet when talking about other people. Especially with written word, it can be read in the wrong tone :( But on a more fashiony note, bold move pairing the crown with some galaxy. It looks awesome!

I love blogging. I think it's a great way of capturing moments of your life. It helps you to evolce and grow. I might make mine a little more personal. But right now, I'm just doing what I love...reviewing products of all kinds. Love your skirt Linda and your shoes are fab!

Tanya Minxy said...

That it one of the reasons I like your blog so much. I love reading your thoughts and opinions about something. You should keep doing what you like, not what is expected from you. =^.^=

"So keeping a fashion blog can seem shallow and vain, huh? Why is it we fill these blogs with photos upon photos of ourselves in pretty clothes?" This thought has popped into my mind so many times. Lol! Hard to explain to people sometimes...Looking so good Linda! I love this outfit and these photos are pretty.

As far as learning to be more discreet on the is about figuring things out, sometimes we make mistakes in the process (often times lots of mistakes), and thats ok. ;)

i love how you've been honest in your posts.. i mean, i know i do enjoy other bloggers for their style (and i would occasionally care about whatever they're saying). but in terms of you personally, i enjoy your style and how you're so casual and open here in your blog. it makes you more genuine and human (if you get what i mean).

anyway, lovely skirt!! the print is spectacular and the way you moved it was captured well by the shots!

I like that you keep your blog as a diary :) Sometimes when blogs are all pictures and absolutely no words, I feel disconnected. But with your little anecdotes, it's more than just the person in the clothes!

P.s you look like you're having fun in your twirly skirt! aka the best kind of skirt!

That is such a unique galaxy pattern, very cool. And your Wonder Woman bracelet and Katniss necklace bespeak you as the fierce but sweet, tough but big-hearted woman you are. And nobody, not a one dear, rocks a floral crown like you. Missed seeing your deep and amazing eyes this post but the barefoot shot was so exciting and, well, the word is WOW I suppose, it made up for it. And just because something someone reads get their feathers ruffled doesn't mean they didn't need to hear it. For somebody like me, I am much more comfortable being open here as I am quiet clam for the most part everywhere else. You blog whatever is in your heart sweetie.

I think you have the right to keep this as your safe place, after all no matter how many sponsors and followers you get it's still your blog and you can express yourself the way you want it, after all that's why people follow you. About the outfit I loved it <3 it totally suits your style so girly and edgy at the same time <3 and the skirt is GORGEOUS!

Such a nice outfit, I really like your skirt! :)

I think having an outfit blog is fun to get ideas and input from other people. And we get to share our likes and dislikes, and find those who like the same things we do and have similar style :) I tend not to say much on my blog as I am a very private person, but for someone who is more open it's natural to share more. I don't think there is anything wrong with it :)

Obviously just make sure those you write about know what's being said and you'll be fine. :) My dad taught me the first time I ever went online that there was no privacy and that anyone can find anything you write. It's true, and something I always keep in mind. :)

Away From Blue

arg i totally hate it when people joke that im vain because i have a blog! i totally agree, its more like a diary for me as i too had uniform restrictions (ive yet to escaoe them haha!).
But i do find the way you openly share things on your blog makes it that much more special. i find myself discovering hundreds and hundreds of blogs every week, but yours has always stood out to me and one the i frequently visit because of the way you share your stylish outfits along with open and entertaining or sometiems personal posts, its what makes your blog you! so i definately dont think you should loose that, you have such a lovely personality! but yes, im so much more aware of what i write on my blog now that all my friends and family do read it haha!
anyway, this outfit is lovely!

Being true to yourself and entirely honest is most important, otherwise everything else is done in vain. Finding balance is a must as well, and definitely blogging because you love it is one of my favourite reasons! It's my great outlet of expression! :) /Madison

Aw, Linda! I totally agree. We have to be judicious in what we write, especially if we're used to being extremely open. Ah, what you have to say always seems to resonate with me. It is so much easier to write about the clothes, but often times I don't even write about my outfit--it's all about my life! I believe that we are more than our outfits, that there's a living breathing person underneath all our stylish staples, so I do my best to convey that. And I've always looked up to you for that!

As for your look, gah, so lovely! I love your signature pairing of unexpected items--that pretty crown and edgy skirt go so well together! That necklace totally completes the look (:

Have a beautiful weekend, dear Linda!

Hello, gorgeous! You are totally rocking that floral crown! I'm in love with the contrast between it and this amazing skirt. I think this is the same one that Jessica of Midwest Muse has and I've always been in love with it. Too bad I could never pull it off well enough to try it!

I'm so sorry that some things you've written on here have backfired! I hope you know that, while I know I love reading about your life and the fact that you trust us enough to share, we also all respect your privacy. This is YOUR blog, which means that you can share however much or little you desire. We'll all be reading no matter what :)

This is such a pretty look, I love the galaxy print paired with the floral crown. Totally feeling you about that crossing the line thing on the blog. I have to edit my posts constantly to make sure I don't give too much away. Though most times I just let it go and cringe after and wonder why I disclosed that about myself LOL!

Lesson, never learned.

You look positively stunning, I love galaxy prints! It's interesting that your style was a bit oppressed growing up with so many uniforms and now you're expressing yourself via your blog! I really admire that. And I totally understand how you feel with spilling a bit too much about yourself online- just tell us what makes you comfortable!

I 100 percent understand what you're saying and I agree with you. even though it feels lick such a safe place becuase we've all been so lucky to meet such amazing and sweet women, stuff that we put out there is out there for EVERYONE to see and sometimes, everyone doesnt need to see personal stuff. (I've been really struggling with this, you and a few other ladies are so kind to me and I feel so comfortable talking with you guys that I just want to sit down and have a good cry fest but again, its stuff I really don't want to put out on the internet for everyone to see. Especially since as you said, people in rl read our blogs and stuff can be taken badly or shouldn't bee seen.) I've always really enjoyed reading your blog becuase you are SUCH a sweet, amazing and open young lady and you are so kind that I feel like I really know you when I read your posts. But I think you're competely correct, sometimes a little censorship is for the better.

Hah, all of that aside, I know I made a few cracks about flower crowns but girl, you ROCK them. They look really natural on you and very organic to your style. I am dying over this outfit, you always mix really sweet items with really killer items and you have such a different and special look, it really makes your blog a treat to look at from an outsider's point of veiw. And that last picture! Ooooooh, it is cool looking! You are just getting better and better!

katie said...

Hah, I forgot to talk about the "blog part." I feel pretty stupid just filling up space with pictures of myself and saying "look how pretty this dress!" I don't really have any sort of outlet for that in my rl though so sometimes it's nice to just come someplace and talk about something completely frivolous rather than everyone expecting everything that comes out of your month to be deep and thoughtful. Sometimes you just want to talk about a pretty dress and forgot about world politics. I think its the same for a lot of women since it's become very frowned upon for us to focus on frivolous things like clothes so I suppose it's just a nice escape. And hey, kudos to those who can make a living off of it!

Joyce said...

Ohhh I do love reading your blog because you're so open, it's something really rare in the fashion blogging world. But you're right, it's still important to be discreet. And sometimes (most of the time) I think I am tooo discreet because i'm really afraid if someone I know in real life sees something I write but at the same time, it's important to be more personable. It really is a hard balance! But I think it might just take a bit more time to get the right balance.

THIS OUTFIT. Linda, this is sooo pretty. I never would have thought to pair the galaxy skirt with the floral crown but you are rocking it. So unexpected but the combo is so awesome :)

i so LOVE this outfit dear!! the feminine floral crown and the edgy galaxy printed skirt combination is indeed not that usual but surprisingly it worked! i really like the contrast Linda! and i think this kind of ensemble slowly becomes your signature :)

i couldn't agree more with that you said, we have to set some boundaries and to be a bit extra cautious in sharing certain issues. Though I'm liking your blog as it is, I'm still glad you always reevaluate your blog once in a while :)

Great point! Blogging is pretty vain. "Look at me in all my pretty pictures while I make poses and show my clothes to strangers." It sounds so funny! But it is a way to bring those of us who love fashion together. :)

Love that skirt! The colors are so vibrant! <3
