Into the Woods

Dress: Rue 21   Jacket: thrifted (Gap)   Boots: thrifted   Bracelet: c/o 2 Hello Beautiful   Ring: c/o Oasap   Necklace: c/o August Wrinkle

Told you I'd be wearing these boots a lot, didn't I? Whats more is that I've recently gotten a couple more pairs as a result of a massive closet cleanout my friend went through. And we just so happen to have the same size in shoes...which is perfectly fine with me!

So while Corina and I were out thrifting, I was browsing racks while a giggly bunch of tweeners passed me by. I overheard their obnoxious comments as I calmly flipped hangers.

"Oh my gawwd, this stuff is so gross!"
"Hey, let's see who can make the ugliest outfits."
"I call these! Hahaha, ewww, can you imagine who must've worn these last?"

I felt my eyes narrowing at them, and I'll admit I gave them the stink eye after listening to about five minutes of this. However, its their loss if they're too stuck up to look at these used clothes for the potential they have. I walked out of there with a sheer snakeskin kimono, olive green midi skirt with a perfectly placed slit, and a sweet new hoodie that I know will be getting a lot of wear this fall. Honestly, when girls like that wander into my favorite thrift store, I feel like chasing them out, brandishing a tarnished hanger at them and yelling, "Go off to the mall then, why don't you!? If you don't like it here, don't bother!"

But then I realize that would be acting like a crazy lady and I decide to ignore the urge.

“Enter by the narrow gate. For the gate is wide and the way is easy that leads to destruction, and those who enter by it are many. For the gate is narrow and the way is hard that leads to life, and those who find it are few.

Girl, you are looking AWESOME in this outfit! I really love your dress - the pattern is perfect! Also, those boots looked perfect.

Oh my gosh, I'm pretty sure that I would have freaked out on those girls. OR at least take something that they were trying on that was "disgusting" and made it work somehow, just to be like, "in your face you little punk. Go buy something that is going to fall apart in six months." Urgh. That irritates me so much.

You always look awesome. Rock those second-hand clothes! :D

I think you should have gone all crazy lady on them, but that's just my personal preference. I can't stand clothing snobs. Drives me absolutely nuts. Who wants to spend 50 bucks on a shirt when I could spend 5 and look just as awesome? :P

Love the dress! It looks great on you.
I love it when my friends have a closet clean out, especially when we are the same shoe size! Great boots!

haha, I wonder why do they go to a thrift store when they hate the place? sounds like something only stupid people would do ;)
anyway, I like it how you've combined those boots with a girly dress! nice contrast ;)

Aw, that's too bad! Clearly those girls don't understand the power of creativity and open mindedness- haha. I'm glad that there are girls who can still appreciate things that aren't the latest and greatest. Cute outfit BTW :-) Alex

Your thrift haul sounds amazing. I'm TOO jealous of that kimono already. Also, your jewelry in this post is adorable. Love this post all around, I think!

Haha I love the thought of you chasing them out with a hanger! It's so true though...I had a similar experience just last night. We were thrifting and a couple high school girls were in the dressing rooms laughing and taking photos of the "awful nerdy" outfits they put together. Annoying.
Anyway, I love this dress and the denim jacket is perfect with it! Plus, that last pic of your boots? Amazing!

Hi Linda, i was so excited to hear about your photography gig, this is going to be the start of a long and successful part-time career. You will be in demand. Adore this pretty dress, the fit is amazing on you. Some people just don't get thrifting, but thats no reason to make fun of it. Thanks for your suggestions on my previous post :) Happy Friday!

They're narrow-minded. People WITH money THRIFT! Something may happen in their life that will cause them to re-think what they said. Horrible. LOVE your dress Linda and that hello necklace is too cute. Those boots will go with everything. You look great.

Ahahaha I kinda wished you would scold them. I don't understand why you'd go into a store if you think it's like, totally gross. Honestly???

You have the coolest taste, sweetie. Awesome dress and, yes, very cool those boots. Shot #4 is my favorite though. Love that close-up, very beautiful and alluring. And the thought of you chasing girls around with a hanger is a hoot for sure. Got me to laughing. Hope all is gr8 with u :)

Floral dress+combat boots+jean jacket = BEST COMBO EVER! I seriously adore this outfit and love the woodsy backdrop. Stunning...always:)
I can't wait to see your thrift finds! The kimono especially sounds pretty fantastic! I have nothing against thrifting, but never go! I've been a few times and never found anything good. Either my town has horrible thrifting options or I need someone to teach me how to thrift! Maybe someday we will cross paths and you can teach me your thrifting-ninja ways:)

Don't mind those girls. When they're broke and in college, they'll grow up and understand the art of thrifting ;)

Oh Linda, Perfect scripture for the snots! hahahahaha

A while ago while at Savers, two 30-40ish looking gals walked by me and my piled-high cart and snickered something about me. I have NO idea what they said but I thought, 'keep your snickers to yourself!'

Ya, to the snots you encountered, I bet they didn't have enough money to shop at the Mall even.

Ah, I spy a pretty little fishtail! What a lovely hairstyle. This is the epitome of your edgy-chic style. I'm totally loving the floral dress with a studded belt and black boots. Nothing wrong with loving such a versatile pair! The last photo of them is simply stunning.

As for those girls, gah, it always irks me when people waltz into things that people hold near and dear to their hearts and just blow it off. I feel that way about cross country sometimes! I don't blame you girl! But what can we do? Haha...fingers crossed for a peaceful thrifting trip next time.

Have a lovely weekend!

I love to buy things which are not simply fashionable, but appeals to my heart, arrose any nice emotions or memories in my heart. That's why I like your attitude to life, you are writing right things! It's really annoying when some girls are trying to look fashionable no matter what and how.
You look so pretty in this floral dress and snapshots are wonderful! Thank You for sharing such a nice post!

I know what you mean. Not to mention, you're doing the earth and all of humanity a favor when you stock up on used fashion - failing to see the good over the bad is really just stupidity.

But whatever, you definitely dress better than them anyways.

I've always loved the effect a simple denim jacket has over a floral dress, it just pulls the whole look together! I myself need a denim jacket, it's just so hot here in Texas that I don't know if I could bare it haha!

And yeahhh my friends don't really appreciate thrifting either. But hey, it's their loss right? ;)

Ah man, what a bunch of punks! They'll realize one day that they missed out on a bunch of treasureful finds. That really is rather obnoxious, though, having to hear that. Keep your little opinions to yourself, especially when other people might enjoy the things you dislike! Goodness. It makes me want to rant as much as it made you want to. Haha, I laughed at the stink eye part. ;)

I love your grungy floral look, dear sweet Linda! I really love that beady little ring of yours... I keep staring at it and can imagine. And how adorable is that tiny hello necklace of yours, too? I'm admiring everything about this outfit, Linda!
