Let's Get Real: Why Do I Keep Blogging?

We all are probably well acquainted with the blogger burnout. It happens, and it's understandable. You get tired of constantly being wired to the internet and replying to comments. Someday you might reach the point where you wonder: "Why do I keep blogging?"

I've thought about this, and here's what I've come up with.
I love blogging. Plain and simple.
Its a place for creativity, inspiration, and where you can freely express yourself.

When I check out blogs, I'm always happy when I find a new post from one of my favorite bloggers. Their way of matching clothes and accessories together sparks ideas for what I could do with my own closet. It's expanded my vision of what is possible to do with different styles. Sometimes I'll see yummy recipes, and I immediately want to start baking. Or maybe there's a DIY post someone did that makes me want to start braiding together a floral crown. Other times, it is a beautifully written post that can inspire just by being read.

It can be tiresome to try and remain a consistent blogger yourself though, and sometimes you need to take a break to re-energize those creative juices. However, if you truly enjoy something, don't give up on it. As long as your goal remains fixed, you won't waver.

My goal with my blog has always been the same - I want to inspire people to be creative with their clothes. Where I live, the staple uniform is: jeans, t-shirt, and sneakers.
I think its time we step outside these dress codes, don't you?

Knowing I have a blog post to put up ensures I stay clever with my wardrobe and maintains that I try to view things with an artistic eye. On top of that, blogging kind of came naturally for me because it combines all the things I'm passionate about - photography, fashion, and writing.

The rewards of keeping a blog are far more than sponsorships in my opinion. While those can be nice perks, the real validation I've felt through blogging is through the feedback and friendships that have been formed. I've met so many lovely people through Trendy Teal that I never would've come across if I hadn't started this blog of mine.

What keeps you motivated?

I love blogging as well! It's such a community and I'm constantly learning something new or finding a new inspiration. I'm new to blogging but I hope I never get too burnt out to keep going!

awesome, awesome post! i definitely think that upholding a blog makes me dress 10x better than i would have normally, haha! just because i want to show creative ways to play with clothes and not just slap on a dress and call it a day. and i most definitely get inspired from blogs like yours- that and you're a pleasure to know :)

I've written about this, too, and I also think blogging is very rewarding and fun!

Have a great day,

I love this post! I agree that it's easy to get burnt out, especially when life gets in the way and you can't really make time to comment and think of a post and you're so tired from the day. I also agree that the best thing about blogging is the feedback and friendships forged. xx

Almost Delightful

Great post. I agree with you my "blogger babes" keep me blogging. If I find myself lacking its usually because I've been slack on reading blogs and replying to comments. Plus its how I steal the most creative juices to inspire myself :)
Thank you for the kind comment- I can barely take my trousers off, they're so comfy

I love this post, I totally agree though blogging can be hard when lots of things are going on in my life. But for me it seems to be my online journal where my fingers can type every emotion and feeling and it makes me feel so much better!

feedback and keeping in touch with my favourite bloggers are my favourite things when it comes to blogging. and I definitely think it's SO important to communicate - write comments and receive comments because that's what makes blogging such a cool hobby :) besides I truly wish I knew all my blog friends in real life and could meet them all!

love reading your blog linda! It's very refreshing and genuine and I really appreciate that :) I gotta get back on my blogging grind, haha. I'm just so swamped with classes at my college. Being a graphic design major is a lot of work haha. but I totally get when you say having a blog keeps you constantly thinking creatively. I also really enjoy blogging as an outlet. It's just super fun! My style has started to change, and I've yet to record it yet haha.

"the rewards are more than sponsorship"--love that part! Yeah, it's awesome to get free things every now and then, but I believe the best part is being able to meet amazing people like YOU! :D Especially creative, artistic people who are often hard to find in real life. I believe blogging brings together people in a way that makes it easier to find people with similar interests... yup yup!

I'd say I blog for that reason, and because it makes me feel productive and keeps me on my toes. I know I only post once a week, maybe twice if I'm daring, but it still gets me drawing a little more or putting together some nicer outfits than I normally would. :))

Readings posts like this keep me motivated. I started blogging because I started reading blogs and I wanted to get in with the outfit posts and reviews. Now, there's a part of me that identifies as a blogger.

I started blogging as a way to practice writing and document my outfits in case I wanted a job at a fashion magazine or any job relating to fashion. I wanted this running portfolio, and now it is more about meeting people who are passionate about fashion and developing as a writer.

I too love all that has come from blogging and have only recently started to work with sponsors. i definitely can relate with the validation coming more from feedback. Having people listen and recognize my site really keeps me motivated =D

So glad I met you through blogging Linda! Love your photos and writing. It's a winning combo!

Blogging started for me as just a solitary thing, mainly a place to vent and express things I couldn't or was too shy to share in real life. When I started getting a few people to follow me, I became so excited and happy. People were actually looking at and enjoying what I was sharing, the real me basically. That acceptance is so encouraging. So now, I still blog to share what's in my heart or has caught my eye, but equally important to me are the reactions I get that motivate me and make me smile. Even with only 15 followers, I am amazed and pleased to have people listening and looking.

Lovely post :) I havn't been a "serious" blogger for very long but I reckon what keeps me motivated is how much fun I have making the posts, taking pictures and reading comments. It all just ends up being worth it I reckon. I'll keep doing while-ever I'm having fun!

Fun photo of you! :)

I find personal outfit blogging really easy and difficult to get burnt out on :) Take a pic, upload it and I'm done, haha. Sometimes I don't want to write much so those days I don't, others it feels like I have tons to say. It's important to have fun with what you do and make it your own, then you'll have less burnout.

Linda, this was absolutely beautiful. There's no way I could've said it any better doll. You have brought to the surface the essence of why people should blog. It's to better yourself, meet other creative and fabulous people, and GROW! I've seen so many bloggers flourish and grow in such a little time span. For me, it was a way to get back into the IN'S of fashion. I did school, got the professional job but didn't keep up with fashion as I did when I was younger. EXCELLENT POST DOLL!

Hi Linda, I can completely relate to your words, it sometimes does get tiring being online for so long. For me blogging is more about writing about fashion than the fashion itself, because my first passion will always be writing and describing collections and clothes. Thats the reason I have narrowed my networking down to just Blogger and not various other online outlets. Great pic!

Great post. And it's encouraging to know that after youv'e gotten in touch with yourself and really thought about it - that you truly DO love blogging.

it is tough - and you're right when you say that we ALL know about the "burnout". Sometimes it feels like SO much work with SO little reward.

That being said, I think we can really tell that you love it, and you've definitely inspired me.

I love the comradery and the positive nature of blogging. I love getting to know people that stay in my mind, kind of like a character in a novel; I love thinking if they would like something I saw or bought or the clothes I share. And keeps me on my toes, too. Creative toes that is. Sometimes I post something I love and others are ho hum about it. That's ok. I like it so perhaps there is 5% out there that do too. Thanks for all of your posts and your creative outlets. You have inspired me many times. And thanks Linda, for commenting to me regularly! I love that the most; hearing from great bloggers and getting their feedback.

SaraM said...

I love this! And I love your blog! Please don't go away! :)
I blog because I need a creative outlet. Since I moved out, I've found that I need it even more partly for the company that friends like you provide. You help keep me sane! ;)

Tanya Minxy said...

I feel the same way! Sometimes I think why do I blog, but it makes me happy and thats it. I like posting and I would continue blogging because of myself, not the others. =^.^=

Joyce said...

That's what keeps me blogging too. I love looking at all the inspiration. Before fashion blogging, I got all my inspiration from magazines but now that I blog, I can get inspiration from so many different people which means so many more perspectives. I love how everyone has a different style and it makes me more excited about fashion :) And not to mention all the wonderful people! It's such a nice community :) But I get you, sometimes it can be really tiring but once I remember why I blog, it all gets better. This is such a great post Linda! (And hope you all have fun on the trip to the city and don't get lost!)

Laura said...

That is such a fun shot!

And I feel the same way - it definitely what I was planning on happening when I first started blogging; I just wanted a place to put pictures of all my outfits, but it has turned into something so much more than that - inspiration!

Thanks for the beautiful reminder!

totally agree with you Linda! Can't have said it any better. For me, it's ultimately my love for fashion and dressing up, because for the blog, I always have a reason to dress myself nicely and to shop shop shop haha. But I also think I blog because I feel great when I receive amazing comments from people, online and offline, and it also makes me feel good because I'm able to express myself in my own way!

Alexandra Zakharova said...

I agree with you Linda, I'm motivated with the same things too. I've also got to say that "free stuff" just don't inspire me, I don't know why. In essence, I don't like to overcrowded my blog with any comercial. It's simply great to meet new people, sharing some ideas and discuss something what is important for us. Nice post, well done!
Have a great time!

Best wishes, Alexandra

I've never had blogger burnout, but i get burnout from visiting blogs and leaving comments. i feel like that's all i do! it takes up way more of my time than creating posts. i don't feel it everyday, just sometimes.

This is a beautiful post, and very true! I agree, that I love going against the normal teenage kind of awful dress code and wearing and sharing clothes through blogging that I love! It is hard, and occasionally I do get a little burned out, but it's always worth it! Putting up a new blog post is always a great feeling!
