The Tribal Bralet

Bralet: c/o She Likes   Skirt: thrifted   Belt: Philippines   Headband: c/o Oasap   Shoes: Rue 21

I first became enamoured by bralet tops when I saw this lovely blogger rock a fun, pastel version on her blog. After that, I secretly kept my eyes open for something similar that would allow me to imitate her awesome outfit. Well, when She Likes offered to sponsor me a piece of clothing, and this was one of the options, I immediately knew I had to try it. Normally, this isn't something I would wear on my own, but hey...if given the opportunity, why not try it?

My issue is my stomach. I've never had the most narrow waist or flat abs. However, I feel comfortable enough with myself to bare a little tummy skin. Aha, and with a high sitting skirt and belt, it works. You should only ever wear something you're comfortable with!

So at work lately, I've accumulated quite a bit of hours for the summer. This upcoming week, I'll have close to 40. Which is good, because I'll need the money! This girl is officially moving out. I got half of my stuff to the apartment yesterday, and the other half will be moved there in a couple days. Slowly but surely, I'll transition my massive wardrobe there. ;)

Ha, but no, at work, there's something going on that's been bugging me.
If you didn't know, I'm a line attendant at Golden Corral. Basically, I'm a cashier. All the girls start off with this spot. Eventually, we're bumped onto the floor and start waitressing. It's the position everyone wants.

It's been almost a year since I've been on the line, and I've trained and watched several other girls go onto the floor before me. I've talked to my manager about this, but he's been dodging my questions with excuses, and now I'm getting downright mad. I vented to one of my friends, a waitress, about how it seemed unfair and I didn't know why he refused to put me out on the floor. Did he think I was incapable?

"That's what Rich does when he gets a line attendant who's really good," she informed me. "So honestly, if you want to be moved to the floor, you're going to have to start sucking."

It makes sense now. The girls who had their registers turn up short or basically caused more problems were moved quickly. Its such a backhanded compliment that I'm prevented from getting the job I actually want because I'm too good at the one I have. How ironic. I'm being punished for doing an excellent job at the one they gave me.

I don't know girls, maybe it's time I wear this spiked headband to work...
Haha! ;)

And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up.

Punished for doing well? So sorry sweetie. Your time will come. That top is beautiful and I lov e seeing that beautiful tum. You are so gorgeous and so sweet. Did you see the Teal Throne I found in my last post? Perfect for the Team Queen :)

LINDA! You are babin' and I adore this outfit on you and the backdrop is really neat, too. It's like you're in the vast desert, explorin' and babin' and such. And your spiky bracelet is a major win, too!

Also, your confidence is awesome. I wish I had your confidence. I keep trying on bralets when I see them in stores but have yet to actually buy one. Hmmm, have you inspired me?

Ah man, I'm sorry to hear about what's going on at your job! Especially if you really, really want to be a waitress. I wonder if the pay is different? If not, I guess it' s okay that you've still got what you've got, but you think that since you've been working so hard you'd get a little change! At least you know the reason why now. Poop!

Mili said...

I'm the same way, stomach exposure is not something I'm comfortable. But like you said, with something high waisted, it's so much more attainable! The print of it is so trendy and I love it with the half sheer skirt :)

Oh my goodness, that is irksome about your manager. I do hope you get your way soon. On the bright side, you look freakin' adorable. This look is such a romantic way to wear a sexy bralet top, paired with that lovely and ethereal skirt. It's a great mixture of hard and soft, with all those tough accessories! Following you now!

May the force be with you.

I love you. Fact. :)
You always show me that I CAN WEAR WHAT I WANT!!! :D I have so many issues with wearing things... And I really do like being in my own skin, tbh! Talk about a little paradox.
About your work stuff- that is a little weird, indeed. I used to work as a waitress and I really liked this job (love working with ppl) but I'd swap with the till girl any minute! ;) Guess it's whatever makes you happy haha. ;) I hope you get your way honey.
Huge hugs!

Liora said...

I love your top! Sorry you haven't been promoted because you're doing such a good job- they're probably just reluctant to move someone who is responsible. I hope you'll get moved to waitressing though :)

Ah, I'm sorry to hear about your job:( I mean it is a compliment that you are too good for them to move, better to be awesome than horrible right?!

Stay positive, lovely! It will all work out how it's supposed to!!!

You look so good - I really love that top on you, you are so rocking it!

And congrats on moving out. Best. feeling. EVER. Can't wait to see pictures of your little space! Have fun sucking a little at your job? (that was weird to type)

Kim Alston said...

when you're really good at something, people like to keep you there. it's unfortunate. linda, i'm guessing you would make more money waitressing (pay + tips) right? i don't know what to tell you. i know you need your job. one person told me, while you have one job you should always look out for the next one. so keep your eyes open girl (of course it has to work with your school schedule too). you'll make the right decision.

I admire how bold you are!! I love the tribal print, you look so boho chic!

Joyce said...

omg can i please have this entire outfit? I've always loved the look of bralet tops but never had the courage to wear it. But dang that top is so cute! I really like the print and it looks so pretty with your maxi skirt. It's the perfect balance!

And yay congrats on getting your own place! And I hope that work issue is fixed soon, totally not fair that you are not promoted because you are too good at your job.

Gorgeous, gorgeous, gorgeous!! This is such a great look on you. :)

That's a real bummer about the job... backhanded compliment is right.

Mica said...

Lovely print! :)

You should be pleased you are doing so well at work with your current job :)

Maybe talk to your manager and ask if you can split your role for a trial, so you can try the new role but he still has you working in your first role and he would be happier that way? Eventually you can scale up to the waitress role when he sees you're just as good at that :)

Unfortunately this happens at times. When you do your job so well, your employers don't want to lose you to another post. Why don't you start looking out for another job? And if something comes up, watch how quickly your present employers will wake up!.
Great bracelet
Have a great week

Hi Linda, love your take on this trend, you have made something intimidating like a cropped bustier top accessible to us all, you look amazing in it! Great figure! Thats such a dilemma about work. You should just approach your manager in the nicest way and ask him about it. If he isn't willing to move your position, I am certain there will be so many other better opportunities out there for you, you have all the experience you need to move on.

Hope you get moved to the floor soon! Love the crop top...too cute :)

Its ironic that the good workers gets stuck in a rut because the management fears they will not find their replacement if they move them! I saw it in a movie too, forgot the name! Hope they come to their senses! BTW, love the bustier! Looks so trendy! Hope you are having a wonderful day!

the bralet looks gorgeous, as do you! :D

sorry to hear about your current work situation - I'm a fan of irony except when it happens to myself or the people I know (even if it is only through a blog). Seeing how you're actually one of the better employees, I'd say you should consider subtly threaten to quit unless they put you out on the floor. Too much?

First, you look amazing in this outfit. I want to be able to pull off this look but I just haven't tried it yet.

Second, how lame that you have to start sucking in order to get promoted to where you want? That's so ironic isn't it? It's a shame a manager doesn't see inspiration in what you could be but instead sees what he might "lose" if he promotes you to a different position. I hope you get what you want without having to sacrifice yourself too much! =0

Renae of Simple Sequins said...

Ya, the spikey headband will do it! hahahhaha. Frankly, if I worked where you do. I would like doing the cashier job more than the waitress job. I haven't worked in a restaurant but I have worked at a cafeteria and people can be sooooo rude. Making correct transactions is a godsend. KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK!

Anonymous said...

I hope you have a good atmosphere at work! Everybody deserves to feel Ok at work! The studded bracelet, yes, why not wearing it there! As for fashion, you have a nice figure, your stomach is absolutely fine! And you look lovely! I love rints, the bralet looks great!

You're braver than me, girl! No way am I comfortable enough to wear a bralet like this but you look GREAT :) Good for you

You look awesome I love the midriff flash :) so glad you gave it a go.
When I don't get something I want at work I just keep asking and asking and bargaining constantly. I was told I wasn't "qualified" to do a task but they "couldn't afford" training- I refused to do any other job I wasn't "qualified" to do until they gave in

Maiken said...

I must say that tribal print top looks really great with the creamy skirt. and the outfit goes extremely well with the backdrop as well, I think.
when it comes to the situation at work I hope you will get what you want.. at least eventually or at least as a 50-50 variant. good luck! :)

Why do you want to be a waitress?? Because of the tips? Do you get paid more? I was a waitress for about 5 years and for the last 2 I wanted to kill myself.:) People really started to bug me... But you can't start sucking, can you?? Why don't you do both, one week you're waitressing and one you're a cashier. I don't know, I just had a thought...:)

But the outfit, babe... PHENOMENAL. I actually have that exact same top and will totally stole this outfit idea, because I have a similar skirt. And don't sell yourself short, because you really do look incredible!

It makes sense they don't want to move you from the register if you're really good at it, it's surpisingly hard to find people who can keep their tills correct. What you can do is ask to either be moved to the postion you want, of tell them you want a raise. (If you've been there for over a year, you deserve one. Point out how good you are at your job and how good you are with keeping the money straight and I bet they'll give you one of the other.)
Congrats on moving out, it's always really exciting the first time you get your own apartment!

This is is really pretty on you, I'm happy that crop top trend has come back around, I think the higher rise ones work on a lot more of us than those Britney Spears ones' did! (This is so gorgeous with the flowy maxi skirt as well!)
