Father's Day

I've always been a daddy's girl. Growing up, I would proudly declare: "I'm going to marry daddy one day." Then mom would have to explain that couldn't happen because she was already married to him. I pouted a bit, but then moved on to John Smith (yes, from Pocohontas).

So whenever Father's Day rolls around, it makes me think back on just how involved and present in my life my dad is. He's always been there for me, and I can't imagine life without him. When I was a baby, mom tells me that he carried me on his back during his daily walks, and would read aloud passages from the Bible to me.  Then there's the time he changed my diaper and after cleaning things up down there, he used a hair dryer to try and dry me faster. Yes, that's my dad for you (sigh). Haha!

As a toddler, he was the one who introduced me to the ocean ("big wa-wa!") and rooted a love for water in me. Later on, we'd take family trips to the beach for summer vacations and spend hours out in the wild water and sand. Back at home, he'd blow up the kiddie pool for me, chase me around with a water gun, and we'd have an all-out battle in the backyard. He was the one who took me to amusement parks and allowed me to drag him around to every ride possible. He'd escort me to the petting zoo and patiently wait as I spent what seemed like hours just wandering from animal to animal.

As a young girl, he encouraged me in all my pursuits. When I decided to try out for sports, and I felt discouraged, he would pick me up and tell me how proud he was of me for sticking with it and pushing through. He always knows what to say to get me motivated again.

Now, as a growing woman, he's still there for me. Maybe not quite as strongly as before, but that's because he's teaching me to be independent. Yet I always know he'll be there with open arms when I need a shoulder to cry on or just need to feel his strength and know things will be okay. There are days I plop down in his office and just spin around in the chairs and talk to him about my day, because I know he'll always give me wise advise.

I think it's silly to dedicate a single day to each of our parents, especially when mine have been there for me every step of the way. Yet I want to make this post especially for my dad.

Happy Father's day, dad. I love you so much.

Love, Eeya.

"and then moved on to John Smith" bahahaha! It's funny how quickly we're able to move on when we're little. That bit made me laugh, Miss Linda. You're so cute.

This is just a touching post in general. I love that you had water gun battles! How fun. :D I remember my dad would always play with me in the pool and pretend to be a shark and chase me. He will still do that in the pool and I STILL can't outswim him! Whatevs. :)

Aww... I could sniffle reading this. Well, I'm really touched to know of the love and bond between your dad and you.

I took so long to get back to this comment and by now 3 Saturdays had passed and sadly, my sleep routine is still the same—waking up only in the late afternoon. I seriously gotta cut down on all my after-work commitments. I’m just too tired.

I haven’t been active on the blogosphere and I feel like I’ve missed out on a lot. At least we are acquainted on Instagram!

Maybe something good would come up from your melancholy and you would become an acclaimed writer. It doesn't hurt to dream and imagine eh?
