My mom and I almost never see eye to eye on things. We argue, we stubbornly refuse to admit when we're wrong, and we both dish out the silent treatment until one of us (usually me) cracks. Yet despite all of this, despite our differences, I love her fiercely. She grew up completely different from my American background, and I admire and respect her so much for that. Her strong, independent nature and determination to pull through has always inspired me. Not only that, but her faith in God and practical wisdom continually challenge me to grow spiritually. That's probably why I can claim to have a grounded personality - it came from her and learning her ways.
My mom is not just my mother. She's my councellor. She's often my psychiatrist. She's my authority. But above all, she is my closest friend.
Happy Mother's Day mom, I love you deeply.
