Poolside

Yup, I was poolside. On the other side of the fence that is...sigh.
Haha, the pool still isn't open yet, and I don't think it will be for a while. I can't wait until I can spend some time in the water and sun though! That's my favorite things about summer. Nothing like feeling the heat of sunlight soak into your skin and then diving into some cool, refreshing water. Usually I'll go to Dierkes, the nearby lake, for swimming. Its much preferable compared to chlorine. At least, it is for me!
So the response to my last post was seriously incredible.
Thank you. For each and every one of your lovely, thoughtful comments. Some of them made me want to cry - to know that so many lovely girls out there struggle fiercely with this demon is incredibly saddening yet eye opening. We're not alone. We all fight the same devilish thoughts. But at least there are more of us fighting this same, body image monster - which means its more likely to be defeated, right? Right.
(Another set of pre-ombre photos...sigh. Haha, its the last one though!)
I really like this outfit too, so it makes up for it. This would have to be my typical summer getup. These new shorts from American Eagle are going to be getting a lot of wear in the upcoming season! They're so awesome. The tye-die, marbly effect (whatever you want to call it) gives a fun twist on this summer staple.

This Yeswalker satchel has become my go-to bag as well. It can function as both a stylish school bag or structured satchel for every day use. I love it!
So school-wise, I've been doing good. The only thing is, I'm reconsidering my major. I originally chose English because of the love I have for writing and uncertainty with what major to choose for that. English seemed like a good, broad place to start.
However, I'm quickly coming to that fork in the road - one where you chase a dream or you shun it for the moment...if only to take a detour for practicality's sake.
What do you do when your dream is an impossibility? When your family is stricken with so many trials you can't afford to "follow your heart"? When the one's you love and look up to so much are broken down and have to turn to you for help?
All I know is that when it rains, it pours. The bills won't stop coming. The phone won't stop ringing. And health is a fragile, scary thing that when it fails is very expensive to fix.
Yet through all of this, through the hushed conversations I notice behind doors, the quiet, the saddened demeanors, my parents still manage to crack a joke here and there. There is still laughter in this house. And there is always the constant reminder that God is good to us. I can only hope to grow into such a stoic and unbending faith as they possess. I am continually learning from them, and I can't express how grateful I am to have them as my parents. As long as we make it through this trial together, I know we'll be okay.
Beloved, do not be surprised at the fiery trial when it comes upon you to test you, as though something strange were happening to you. But rejoice insofar as you share Christ's sufferings, that you may also rejoice and be glad when his glory is revealed.

you look stunning =)
I love your outfit, and I'm jealous that it is hot enough where you are to wear shorts! It's been raining in California! About the major thing, if you love English, I think you should stick with it! Or you can always have it as a minor. I have a friend that is going into English and has decided to be a teacher. :)

The Lovely Memoir
That is something I think a lot of young people go through-myself included. There are so many things I would love to do-but just don't think it possible with finances and such. I hope you find a balance between keeping afloat and still doing something that you love! I'll be praying for you and your family as well-your verse rings so true, God sometimes brings us through trials so that we can learn to praise Him even more in the good times! Hang in there beautiful!
Love your fun, summery outfit too-makes me want some warmer weather! :)
i went through the exact same thing! i didnt follow my heart though because the heart is emotional. the mind is more logical and practical. i hope that you find everything that you're looking for. just remember, rich people are miserable, too. i hope youre doing fine sweetheart <3

Oh did u dyied your hair? Oh I wanna see. Sometimes following your heart is the way to go... It's about finding possibilities in the paths we pick.. I think that if u wanna be write majoring in English is I think you can do so much with it : )... Anyways I love this look specially the shorts
Aww Linda I hope everything is okay, that last part of your post was so sad.
No matter what, God will get you through it.
In the meantime, sit down and chat to your parents about your questions around your major - they are older and wiser too, and know you well so will know what's best for you. Talk to the advisors at the college, your friends, others who are already doing what you love and see what they think. It helps to get multiple perspectives sometimes.
You are still young, you can defer something for a while and pick it up again later, nothing is final. What's important is family and friends and being there for people who need you.
If you ever need to chat I'm only an email away!

Times are hard right now Linda. You're not alone. So many people are stressed out financially. I would make an appointment and talk to your college advisor about your concerns. Nowadays its all about finding a good paying job and of course doing something you love upon completing college. Ask yourself what would you like to do? No matter how frivolous you may THINK it might be. Then write out the steps you need to take or what you have to do to achieve that dream. Map it out! Talk it out! Speak it! Connect with people in that genre. Talk to them! Hope this helps.
Dear, you look adorable!

You are really beautiful from outside and inside. You are very inspirational, Linda. Your posts are a wonderful diary.
Love your sandals ;D I wish it is summer so I can wear shorts.
I went through the chasing the dream trial as well. I desperately wanted to go to art school, but my parents refused because they wanted me to go to "real school" and because they couldn't even come close to affording it. Then I thought that after I graduated with my business degree that I could go, but more trials and waiting came. And I am grateful, because I know God had me on a different path and that is not what I was supposed to do even though I was pretty certain it was :) Pray and trust in Him
When Mine Became Ours
First I have to tell you those shorts are fantastic on you so wear the heck out of 'em this summer. And the Mockingjay? Just so superb. Big HG fan, like took the day off work saw the 9AM show opening day big.
And second, so sorry for the issues piling up on you, dear. A phrase often repeated in the Bible is "and it came to pass." That often comforts me because everything, every challenge that seems to big, every sad day, they pass. And it is not much of a surprise that your parents are still able to keep a happy tone despite their troubles. You had to get it from somewhere :) All the best and, oh ya, thanks for the nice comment on my blog. Such a sweetie!
Perfect style ! I love your short and your necklace is adorable :)
I love the color on your toes!! it's the perfect toe color... which I am almost ALWAYS looking for! hahaha. and so jealous of your Hunger Games necklace!
That's what's kinda awesome about Texas... our pools are open year-round! even though it's not exactly hot enough to swim yet!

Oh, Linda! I'm sure the pool will be open soon enough. The weather is definitely getting to that point, isn't it? We can only hope that soon we shall be able to bask in the sun and the pool, ahaha. :D I'm loving all your pretty bracelets!
Oh dear. I'm sorry to hear that you've been facing some problems in your household, and I can see why that would make you want to reconsider your major. I really hope that you'll be able to find a nice middle between doing what you love and something that will help you get along in life... as an Art major, I can definitely say I know how you feel.
Cute look Linda, you look so cute, comfy. I hope you can come take a peek of my new post as well. xx

Sucks that it's still cold over there. The pools are open all winter here.
Still, shorts and a tee? I think there are definitely places colder than where you are.

I'm so sorry you're going through such a hard time. Try to continue to keep your head up and stay positive!
Ps. For some reason, this outfit screams biker-chick to me... that makes no sense because it doesn't have any leather or studs... but I feel like you should be on the back of a bike! haha LOVE IT!
Oh so gorgeous,sweetie!

Hey gorgeous girl! Everything will be ok! :) Just keep trusting in the Lord, and He will certainly provide. This weekend was our LDS General Conference, but it isn't just for Mormons. There's a talk I heard this morning that I think you would like to hear. It isn't available for streaming at this moment, but it'll be on this website within the next 24 hours:
http://www.lds.org/general-conference/sessions/2013/04?lang=eng
It'll be Dieter F. Uchtdorf's Sunday Morning address. It's pretty powerful! Through Christ everyone can find the hope to make it through darkness :)

It can be hard when your family can't or won't support your dreams, especially in such a difficult time for so many in our country. I'm lucky that my parents support what I want to do, no matter what, which is good of them as a girl who is studying social work! I say just follow your heart and it will all work out someway, just takes some trust!
Oh. my. GOSH. Your necklace is just AMAZING. I need to get one of those before Catching Fire comes out. So perfect!

Poolside! Only a few more months and you will be on the other side of the fence:) You look stunning, dear! Your photos are always so beautiful! I love that they are always natural, but so artistic. It really is fantastic!
Everything happens for a reason is the most cliche statement ever, but a statement to live by nonetheless. I have two loves in life, fashion and teaching. I always saw myself going into fashion, but when it came to actually picking a major, I went the practical route and chose teaching. I won't say I regret my decision, as I really adore being in the classroom and being around kids and watching their faces light up when you teach them something new or read a particularly exciting book. I do always wonder 'What If' though, especially as I struggle with finding a job (I'm a substitute), and my love for clothing is really horrible for the bank account. Where would I be if I had gone down the other path? I truly believe that God provides and the decisions you make in life are based off of his desires for you and where he wants you to be. It's not always easy, but like you probably already know, pray about it. I promise that you might not find clarity now, but he does have a plan for you:) Sending lots of prayers, happy thoughts and gigantic hugs your way!! Keep your chin up, lovely.
xo Ashley
Sorry to hear things are in limbo at the moment, but you will get through it. Sometimes, it's the waiting game (not on our time) and something resilient comes from unexpected sources. HAng in there! Love your casual outfit. xx/Madison
Cute sandals <333
I love the bag and shoes - I cant wait for the Summery weather here.
You post was very thought provoking. It's so true that nothing is more important than your health, but it's such a shame when it costs lots of money to achieve good health. I'm sure you will be okay, you sound to have a very positive frame of mind!

Great top and accessories - i love to see that it's getting warmer.
another wonderfully written post, dear Linda. I already said you shouldn't worry too much because eventually things will work out, one way or another.
your outfit, btw, is such a summery one and I so envy that, honestly, I really do because I'm sick of the winter we have here.
those shorts are the coolest, like you said and I still love the bag as well.

Shoooorts....I'm so jealous, send a little of that weather my way! I said this in the last post but wow, I love these sandals. The beaded upper strap is so different and cool looking, they have an edgy boho look to them which is so you.
That's really hard trying to decide on exactly what you want to do and it's even hard when it's dictated by money concerns. There was no way that my parents would have been able to pay for my college so I ened up saving my money from my job during high school and then later on working full time in school to pay for it. It took me a lot longer to finish my degree and now I wish Id gone for a history rather than english degree, but you know, that's how it goes. I think it's really responsible of you to think about your parents' situation and it really specks as to how kind and sweet of a person you are. The great thing is that even if you do go with something else, you can still work towards the job of degree you really love, so few of us actually stick with the first job or even career that we start off with. :) Good luck with it dear!
