Dress: (thrifted) xhilaration   Vest: (thrifted) Dollhouse   Bag: Rue 21   Earrings: Philippines   Ring: Etsy   Flats: (thrifted) American Eagle

I can't believe how quick this trip has gone. The three weeks have rushed by, and now I'm desperate to cling  to what little time I have left. I always hate when these visits end, because who knows when I can come back? That's the thing with having family half way around the world. These are the ages I've been to the Philippines to visit, each one lasting about a month in length - 4, 10, 14, 16, and now 18. See the time gap in between each? So much time passes, and everyone is growing and living their life here - one that I'm not a part of. I just regret how I'll appear for a couple weeks randomly, and then disappear for years before I visit and see everyone again.

Which is why now I've entertained the idea of coming back once I get my Associates degree and stay for a much longer time. I've never had the chance to get to know my family here since I visit for such short periods. But if I did this...well, maybe they wouldn't be such strangers.
Being here always gives me a fresh perspective on things, and I can truly find enjoyment in the simple lifestyle that's lived here. Its hard...but I feel myself growing through the experience.

Anyway, that's some of what's been on my mind lately.
This is what I wore for a day out in Baguio. I decided to recover my edge with a leather vest and some cool sunglasses. Haha, plus, its been too long since I wore a dress. Everyone here wears jeans (I swear, everyone). But my Aunt told me I look really pretty in a dress and should wear it out, so I decided to stop blending in.

So after recovering from our rapid, two-day road trip, mom and I decided to treat ourselves to a mani-pedi date. I'll admit, I can get used to this kind of treatment. I never get my nails done by someone, because I figure why spend the money on that when I can do it at home for free? But yeah, its nice to get pampered. Afterwards we had a massage, and shoulders feel so much lighter!

Haha, so that's my cousin JR. We're rocking our new shades in this photo.
Also, his shirt says Igorotak, and I have the same one in blue. It means "I am an Igorot" and I love wearing it.
I'm proud of my heritage, even if I can only stake half a claim on it. My mother's tribe is something I like knowing I have a part in. After all, who can say they're part of an ex-headhunter tribe? Haha, you should see the museum exhibit on Igorots here! Gruesomely awesome.

Love these pictures!! I've been going back and reading a bunch of your entries since I've been rather non-existent the past few months! First of all 1) I <3 you! 2) I saw some great outfit posts in there! and 3) I'm loving all of these updates from the Philippines!

Awe, Linda! You can't help it that you can't visit super often. Heck, the fact that you all make the effort to get there in the first place is applaud-worthy. You will be visiting again, and I think you know that. :) For now, reflecting on how you've grown from your experiences there and incorporating that into your current lifestyle is what you should be focusing on. And getting that degree, of course! ;) you have your whole life ahead of you lovely.

I adore your vest. I see your style has taken quite the turn. So bold, I love it!

Also, a manipedi date with your mom sounds like the perfect way to end a trip. Hope you're feeling all relaxed now!

I totally know what you mean. I have so much family in India, but I hardly ever get to visit. It's really sad. Hopefully you get to go again!
Anyway, I really love your vest. It's so cute!

I love the leather with the floral. And that photo of you and your cousin is too cute! That would be fun to go live there for a while when you're done with school! I always hate the end of trips and having to go back to the day to day grind.

Wow, i think this outfit summs up what I loved so much about your style. I love how you balanced really pretty, girly garments like this dress and then you tame it with flats and a really awesome leather jacket. You have such an amazing sense of style and everything you wear seems so very "you", like you're wearing the clothing rather than them wearing you.
I love seeing all of the pictures and your trip and again, I want to hear more about your mother's tribe! It sounds so fascinating, them being former headhunters and all. :)

gosh, how quickly time flies! you just went there! and now you're starting to leave again. crazy!
but what a lovely outfit that is and I'm glad you decided to wear a dress again. I remember I used to say that was one of the important things I always liked about your outfits :P though of course pants can be great too, there's no question here! oh and that vest is a really cool one!

I'm so glad to hear you enjoyed your trip. I cannot wait to see some photos of your grandma's tattoo sleeves. That has got to be amazing.

I can totally relate to you... although I'm pure Filipino, my family's been living in Macau since before I was born so I rarely get to see everyone else back in the PI. Sometimes I feel like a stranger to them too.

Btw, I have never been to Baguio. The next time you go back there, I should totally plan a trip to visit you on purpose, haha. And maybe I'll bring along Chezka with me. We both lvoe advetures!
