Dear No One

Dress: xhilaration   Cardigan: Debs   Jacket: c/o SammyDress   Necklace: Macys   Boots: c/o My Hot Shoes

In that post when I told you about my recent breakup, one of you lovely readers sent me the link to this song by Tori Kelly called Dear No One. Its been on repeat throughout most of my days lately, and I am not even close to being tired of it. Every word in the lyrics rings true for me! Thank you for sharing it with me.
Anyway, for today's outfit, I wanted to wear a dress. It was forty degrees out, but I knew I couldn't stand to squeeze into jeans that day. So how do you make a dress warm for winter? Simple - you layer up! I wore tights and two jackets on top to stay cozy all day. I've missed this tribal print cardigan from last winter and was all too happy to break it out again. If you want a closer look at it, you can see how I've worn it here and here
So on Wednesday, I met up with Shay to grab coffee and just talk. She'd called me and told me she was there for me whenever I needed her, so I took her up on the offer. I've found lately that by surrounding myself with friends and activities, I feel much better. That coffee chat was no exception. Haha, I can't help but laugh over how much caffeine I seem to consume when my friends and I hang out though. I swear, my top two investments with my cash are gas and coffee - the things that fuel my life!

So here's a little tidbit to share.
While walking across campus to the library one day, there were these two very tall, African American jocks (I'm sorry, how else can I say that??) that were goofing around outside the building. I vaguely smiled at them since they were dancing rather humorously, before fixing my gaze elsewhere and continued walking past. Then I heard this:
"Damn girl, looking good!"
Initial reaction: Huh, must be talking to someone else.
But then it was followed up with:
"Hey, you in the red, you is fiiiiiine!"
Then I knew they weren't talking to someone else, because I glanced around and realized there wasn't anybody else around, and I was the only one in the vicinity wearing red.
I ignored them and continued walking without turning around.
Aha, I'm curious though - how would you girls deal with that?

Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.
(John 14:27)

You look so pretty girl! No wonder you got cat called haha ;) but seriously I've had almost that exact situation happen to me and I did the same thing you did! I love love love your sweater, this whole outfit is so cute! I'm doing the same dress with tights and layers thing today because it's freezing and I didn't want to wear jeans either!

Oh my goodness, that happened to me once in my apartment building. I ignore it hardcore! I find it's best not to fuel the fire of unwanted attention. Haha. It's super awkward though!
On another note, I'm loving all the cozy layers! You made that pretty dress work so well for colder weather, and the necklace just takes it up a notch.

Just listened to that song and now I'm on the third playing haha :) I've literally been sitting here with your blog open listening to this. SO GOOD. I don't have a boyfriend and havent had one since middle school but still these words apply to me too...I WANT A SOULMATE BUT IVE LOOKED SO HARD AND IM JUST GONNAA STOP YA KNOW???? haha im sure you know :) Anyways, love the outfit! And as for the "african american jocks" would i have done? well, me right now (sitting in my room not actually in that moment) would be all flirty and turn around and wink at them or something like that, but REAL LIFE me would be awkward and not know what to do and kind of laugh a weird laugh or something. Haha :)

Wait so i was thinking about it again and I CHANGE MY ANSWER. Depends on if they were attractive and if it seemed as if they were being rude or if it just seemed like they were flirting/teasing heeh <3

I like how you've layered the two cardis to wear the dress in winter :)

Good on you getting a catcall too! haha. I would just do what you did, take it as a compliment and keep walking :)

I love your outfit! The pops of red look really good :)
I would take a catcall as a compliment. And I would keep walking.
Also, that's a really good song!

cool outfit, i love your necklace!
would you like to follow each other? let me know :)

The times I've been cat-called I usually say "Fuck off." But yeah that's because I feel weirdly violated when I get cat-called. If it makes you feel good, you should take it as a compliment! Everyone reacts to these things differently. But for what it's worth you ARE damn fine. ;)

haha those guys comments, lol! I would have just laughed! :) But that is nice of them to compliment you! SO BOLD!

How do you like that tan jacket? It's super cute :) Do you have a review on that? If no, could you tell me about it? I'm interested! But I am very iffy about chinese wholesale websites!

And I didn't get to comment on it before but I hope you're doing well.

Sara said...

Hahahaha!! That's so funny! One time a guy on the train told me, "Hey girl, you got some sexy legs. I like the way you walk." like 5 times and asked for my name. :P I just shrugged him off with a thank you. Haha!
I'm glad you're feeling better!

Maiken said...

haha, those "situations".. to be honest I find it rather lame. not the most polite way to get some attention from a girl. but what can you do? (some) guys will be guys! ;)
anyway, I LOVE the tribal print cardi and the way you've combined it with that matching necklace! nice job, Linda!

That's yet another outfit of yours I absolutely adore, it's perfect for such weather! I always do the same in winter, I layer up to avoid having to wear jeans. I haven't done that for 18 months and counting and I want to survive this winter wearing dresses and skirts only as well. Also, out of sheer curiosity, I googled the lyrics to that song and I have to say I can relate to it as well, every single word fits perfectly. :)

As for that situation on campus, I've experienced it multiple times as well and I always react in the same way as you. Sometimes when I'm in a good mood I smile back :) I once had a pretty scary situation though... A guy was driving past me and all of a sudden when he turned around in his seat and started staring at me, he automatically let go of the steering wheel. My face must've been priceless- I was terrified because I thought he was going to crash!

Oh la la, Linda! The colors in these pictures are so pretty. I really love that cardigan of yours... the pattern is so lovely and unique, and the colors are so stunning. This outfit has such a cool tribal vibe without being too cliche, if you know what I mean. You don't look far too cold, so I'm guessing that your layering did the trick! ;)

Also, you is lookin' fiiiiine girl. ;D hahahaha.

It's okay, I had a similar experience the other night--I was wearing a black turtle neck and dark wash jeans and black boots and some guy shouts out a window "lookin' sexy in all black." People are strange, my dear Linda. They are indeed. You just gotta walk on, just like you did. Laugh it off! It's a compliment in a weird way is all lol

Great outfit, Linda! It's a compliment what they told you, just smile and walk away :) and I am so sorry about what happened - I'm sure this is all for a reason, and if you're meant to be then don't fret, fate will find a way...and if not, well at least you got beautiful memories out of it.

Stay strong sweetie, one day at a time :)

You look great: layering is definitely the key to wearing dresses all winter. I do it too :) So sorry to hear about your break up: I've been missing over the last week or so and only just caught up. I hope you continue to feel better. I am a firm believer that it is better to have loved and lost than not to have loved at all.

Your cardigan is the shiz and the necklace you chose to go with it is perfect. I love your whole look, from head to toe!

As for what I'd do in that situation- if it's out in public with people around and the guys don't sound or look particularly threatening, I normally just give them a smile, shout "thanks!" and keep on walking. If I'm alone and the guys look menacing, on the other hand, I just pretend I didn't hear them and hightail it outta there.

I haven't really gotten the chance to comment on your last few posts, but I've been reading. I can't imagine what you're going through right now, but I hope you're holding up okay. I really admire you for how optimistic and strong you seem to be staying; we all know that breakups are tough, especially when you love someone that much. No amount of consoling will make it go away, but I hope the support from your readers (and you have A LOT of support from all of us!) helps at least a little.

On a brighter note, this is one of my favorite outfits of yours. The layering in this is flawless!

Joyce said...

I love how you layered this outfit so that a dress becomes wearable in cold weather! The bit of tribal print is so fun and I like all the neutral colors :) hmmm in that situation I would probably just ignore them like you did.

Katie Q. said...

Oh my, this might sound silly or creepy, but I just noticed that you have a little freckle under each eye, that is one of the coolest and cutest things ever!

That's actually a funny story, I always get really confused over stuff like that and just stare. (Thus making everyone feel awkward.) Being oblivious usually works unless it gets into vulgar territory, then let them have it. I do really love your cardigan, it look so warm and cozy. Take care of yourself dear! said...

Perfect layers, my dear! And as for creepers that try to "holla" at you... I either ignore it or if they persist, I (well, there's no polite way of saying this, haha) tell them to fuck off. Just hold you head high and with dignity, no need give those losers the attention that they're seeking. ;)
