Love Talks

I normally don't open up about really personal things, but lately, I feel so joyful about my relationship, I just can't contain it! Besides, with Thanksgiving going on, I thought I might as well share a little more in depth on one of the things I'm grateful for. (So if you're not in the mood for some mushiness, just ignore this little post).

I'm sure most of you know about Patrick, my boyfriend. I mean, if you've been following my blog since summer, you'd have gotten to hear about our unfolding relationship. It's fun to look back and remember where we started.
He's shown me a glimpse of what love is supposed to be like, and I look forward to seeing it even more clearly with him.
He is nothing like my ex. I think I was supposed to date Sam just so that I could see and appreciate the vast difference between him and Patrick.
With Patrick, I feel like I am actually seen. He can see below the surface, and it amazes me how he appreciates who I am. Because who I am isn't the typical, fun, outgoing girl a lot of guys want. It takes some digging to unearth that side of me.

I can remember this one moment from my past relationship. It's stuck with me because it was just a slight jab at my quiet personality, but it stuck out because it still stung. Sam had taken me to one of his school's function, and this is what he said to me before we walked through the doors.
"Can you please just promise me you'll actually talk to my friends? Don't get shy like you always do."
It was almost as if he was nervous to take me to this event just because he was afraid my quiet nature would ruin it or something.
There were other aspects of my personality that would always frustrate him, and all I can say is I'm grateful that relationship ended. It taught me a lot, but it wasn't healthy.

And then I met Patrick.
Instead of putting me down for being reserved, he treasures it. Instead of trying to change me, all he's given me is encouragement. Not only that, he's helped me grow in my faith and challenges me in a good way. Plus, the random notes and creative places I've found chocolate hasn't hurt. ;)
Of course, we both still go through struggles, but the mark of a strong relationship is the willingness to get down in the trenches and work through the mud. And believe me, there is a lot of slime to clean away. However, the shards of gold that have been uncovered gives me hope of a treasure that's buried underneath.
It'll just take time and more digging. We'll see.

 I Corinthians 13:4-8
Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails.
I hope everyone has a wonderful Thanksgiving with your loved ones, and don't forget to appreciate the people in your life and what you have!

I feel the same with my boyfriend. He know I'm little cold and quiet and he supports me. My ex boyfriend always complained about my shyness but Luis loves it.

I'm so happy you found somebody who accepts who you are!

Happy Thanksgiving!

oh, what a post! so well written and so sincere. I really enjoyed reading it :) and when it comes to past relationships then I also think that one must learn from everything. I had at least ten (probably a lot more, haha) relationships before I met my fiance and I can honestly say my past has made me stronger.. a lot stronger! everything in this life has a reason, even the bad things. that's why we have to be tough and learn from our mistakes, not regret things.

Aw. What a sweet, personal post :) Having gone from an unhealthy relationship to having a great, supportive boyfriend definitely makes you appreciate it more and realize what you have. I'm glad you found someone that respects and admires you for who you are and doesn't try to change you or resent you for the things that make you special!

Have a great Thanksgiving :)
