So Much More

Outfit Details:   Shirt: c/o Oasap   Shorts: Levi Strauss (garage sale)   Loafers: c/o My Hot Shoes   Necklace: Vanity   Bag: c/o Wholesale Dress

I officially have a thing for studs. No, not of the male specimen (okay, maybe that too), but with shoes! These loafers caught my eye and I just knew I had to have them. This time I decided to stick with more comfortable shoes so that when I start college I won't be in pain as I run around campus. Haha, besides, these still represent my crazy shoe obsession quite well.

So first off, I would like to thank all of you wonderful readers who gave such positive feedback on my last post! I always love reading your thoughtful inputs. They encourage me so much. :)
I addressed inner beauty last post, which can be difficult to put the spotlight on when so much of fashion has to do with outer materials! Yet even when we put on those cool pair of shoes, amazing printed top, or bright skinny jeans, sometimes its tough to wear what we liked on the sales rack when we dislike our outer appearances so much.

I'll confess, I've struggled a LOT with my appearance! I happened to lose a lot of weight over the past couple of years, which has helped boost my confidence, but lurking in the back of my mind is that chubby girl who's self conscious of what other's think. However, I'm training myself to get over that and focus on the good things.
I've found that if I look at the things I hate about my physical appearance and try to shed a positive light on it, I feel better.

For example, for the longest time I've struggled to accept my muscular legs and strong, cleft chin. I sometimes catch myself comparing my calves to guy calves and being disappointed to find mine are usually bigger! Aha, and I was teased about my chin a couple years ago, earning the nickname Jay. You know, as in Jay Leno? I know, real original right?
But since I joined the volleyball and basketball team a couple years ago, I found that the very calves I despised were what pulled me through and helped me reach varsity level. I have power in these legs that help push me to run faster, leap higher, and be an overall better athlete.
And my chin? Well, that took longer to accept. However, when I visited the Philippine, I was with my lola (grandma) a couple times when we went out, and people would immediately make the connection that I was the granddaughter. I thought: "Wow, how could they tell? I look like such an American!"
Guess what gave it away? We happen to have the exact same chin. So now I look at it with pride and know that it connects me to a part of my heritage that I love and thought I could never be a part of because of my strong American looks.
I hope you all can do the same with things you don't like about yourself!

Anyway, on to story time with Linda ;)
So Sunday night, I went to a drive in with some new college friends I've made, and wow, that was fun!
It turned out to just be four of us (Kirsten, Patrick, Zach, and me) which worked out since we all squished in the bed of Patrick's truck to watch two movies; Madagascar 3 and Men In Black 3. Which, by the way, were the craziest and most random movies I've seen in a while, but gave some good giggles throughout.
It was quite humorous. We got there really early to get a good spot, and since we weren't all that close, we made some awkward/small talk conversation before we got comfortable with each other and started joking around and having fun.

So, perhaps you wonder about this Patrick guys since I've mentioned him a couple times here. I have to say, I do too. He's such a friendly, social guy. Very genuine too! He's got that nice guy appeal that I appreciate.
Anyway, after the movie I drove home after dropping Kirsten off home and found I had a text from him. He said I was fun to hang out with, but wished we could talk more. And then he asked if next time I was town, did I want to grab coffee or lunch with him.
Sooooo....I know he's a super friendly guy to everyone, but a little alarm went off when I read that. Aha, I mean, that's more than just a friendly request, right?
However, I'll admit, he intrigues me. I'd like to be a closer friend with him since I know he's a good guy, and I sure could use a good guy friend when I start college!
So I agreed. Not sure what he's got in mind, but I'd like to keep things casual, and so far it is.
I'll keep you updated. And if you have any advise or comments, go right ahead! I'd love to hear what you think. :)

Man, how do I always make such wordy posts? For those of you patient enough to read it all, thanks!

Great shoes!
I know how you feel about dealing with insecurities about your appearance (especially about the muscular legs, I have the same calf issue!) but I just try to keep in mind that of course things could be worse, and little things like that that get me down aren't as bad as they seem. Hey, some people like strong calves! I like what you wrote about being a better athlete too, because it wasn't until I started running a lot that I could really appreciate them : )

I read every word of this delightful post. I can assure you have nothing to worry about, you are so beautiful the way you are. We all have things we are self conscious about, but it's silly to dwell on such things. Own the hotness. Love the studded loafers and the details on that top! So pretty!

Your chin?! Of all things your chin?! Who even notices chins. Girl, you cray cray. Your chin is just like anyone else's chin. Not saying you're not a unique individual, but... YOUR CHIN?!

Now that I've said chin 150000 times, it sounds like a really weird word. But you look great, my dear, and should not let that get you down at all. You look fabulous. Be glad you even have legs, all right?! ;) 'cause dey some fine-ass legs, mmhmm~ but really, I know where you're coming from--I had problems with eating in the past and so now staying on a healthy track opposed to an unhealthy one where I'm doing crazy diet shit is a battle for me every day. We can get through this together. :) CAUSE WE HOT, RIGHT?!

Okay, I know I'm lame.

This is one of my favorite outfits of yours. It's so sleek and you! Those studded loafers are seriously da best. I just saw some similar ones on Modcloth. Now if only they came in heel form...

I don't think there's one girl in this entire world who's not self conscious about something, I've been friends with "the prettiest girls" and they all worry about something so what ever, i get self conscious about my chin too very often cause is so pronounced and is kinda twisted but I just try not to think about it, your legs are amazing and is so good you can find positive things to help you accept your body completely. Any way patrick asked you out huh? Is best to always think is nothing but I think he likes you haha... hope to hear what happened. Love those loafers <3 I have a thing for studs too but I can't get my hands on anything studded ):

Love your studded shoes! :)

Have fun meeting Patrick on your possible date / possible friends catching up.

I wonder if I should slip in here that when my now husband asked me to the movies I wasn't sure if he was just being friendly or if he was interested in more, as I was just getting to know him. I bored my friends to tears asking them if they thought it was a date....hubby likes to remind me of this torture every now and then, he's so happy he pulled off such a clever ruse! haha.

So you never know ;)

Thsoe shoes are so cute and look really comfortable! ... I definitely think this guy likes you.

And a lot of guys with skinny chicken legs (which is a lot) would be so jealous of your toned calves! Some men seem to have a really hard time gaining muscle there and it looks disproportionate.

I dig your studded shoes so much.
I just DIY'd some shorts with studs on the pockets. I think I have a problem with studs.
Can I say I'm so jealous you went to a drive in movie? The last two in my entire state closed down a couple years ago!
I also think you're gorgeous. Your optimism is inspiring. When people are securing themselve, they inspire others to be secure too.
Love, Evan
