SLIDER

Pastels and a Pole

Outfit Details:   Shirt: Rue 21   Shorts: thrifted   Bag: Rue 21   Earrings: vintage   Belt: garage sale   Sunglasses: garage sale   Heels: c/o My Hot Shoes

I live in a small town. Its pretty decent though. I mean, we've got a grocery store, some thrift shops, auto repair shops, and oh yeah, a big cause for recent excitement, McDonalds!
So in small towns...you don't dress like this.
Unless you're crazy like me.

When I got these sweet, mint colored Lita look-alikes from My Hot Shoes, I could not resist wearing them to go into town.

So Kirsten and I went into a thrift shop, and I had these babies on. Man, did I attract a lot of stares...
It makes me uncomfortable but at the same time I know I need to brush it off. This is honestly what I like to wear, and I don't find these heels uncomfortable, so why not wear them?

After we made our purchase (you'll see evenutally...I found two really sweet blouses!) we saw this pole and immediately knew it would make for a fun prop. Cars kept passing by, but instead of shying away from posing, I thought "Oh what the hell. Let them stare if they want!"
Aha, so I actually overcame my fear of taking outfit photos in public. It's easy to feel intimidated by other's stares, but if you feel confident in what you're wearing it's easier to not care as much.

I finally tried tucking in my blouse into a belted pair of shorts, and I love how it turned out looking! Of course, with my mint Lita look-alikes and soft-pink chiffon top, I also managed to work the pastel trend into the outfit.

Then as we got into my car and were laughing over some of the goofy looks we'd gotten, a couple of guys walked out of the store and I happened to look up as I was laughing. Aaaaaand just so happened to catch the eye of the cutest guy in the group. He smiled back at me, and I ducked my head. When I peeked up again, he was still smiling at me!
Haha, Kirsten told me he'd kept looking even as I backed up the car to go.
Hmmmm....we'll have to go thrifting again soon ;)

PS: Don't forget about the Dark Horse Jewelry still going on here!
I have another sweet giveaway coming up soon, so enter this one while it's still going on.

Gorgeous shoes! The colour is lovely. I definitely know what you mean about wearing something different to the norm in small towns, I almost challenge myself some days to wear something that will make people look again.

I'm from a smallish city & I always get the same stares because I'm not wearing the jeans+hoodie+sneakers combo everyone else is. But it's great that you felt confident to take photos anyways! I'm halfway there, I have my moments haha. As for this look - it's pretty, feminine, the candy-coloured faux lita's add a bit of punch - love it! :)

Seriously. For some reason this post almost made me cry.

It could be b/c it's 12:30 am, and I've been listening to the same bitter sweet sara bareilles song on repeat for 2 hours now - but I just really reallyloved this post. I, too, stand out when I wear anything that isn't sweat pants or jeans, but I'm starting to learn to grow more confident in what I like.

I totally understand how you feel, and I think it's so awesome that you're becoming more self-assured. I just wish people would understand it's not about us seeking attention, it's about us feeling good in our own skin. Something that's not easy to do - so if giant towering teal heels do it for you - you need to take that opportunity!

You definitely need to pursue this cute onlooker. I want to read a little romance novel about you two and how you first met.

Love this so much :):)

AWEEE HOOOORAYY! :D You have overcome your fear of taking public pictures, that's so awesome! I'm still kind of afraid. My mom takes my pictures so I don't mind any passerbys and just act like I'm some pro model or something lol and brush it off. But I could never do it alone!

And hey, living in a small town just means people will recognize your super stylishness even better. :) They'll remember you... which is totally a good thing, right?! :D I am so very happy for you!

Such a great story. I don't take that many photos in public mainly because it's hard for me to always find a photographer but in the beginning it can be a bit intimidating when everyone is staring but you're right. Why should it matter if you feel confident in what you're wearing? Love you look a likes, amazing color.
