Floral Wedges & Love Talks

Outfit Details:   Dress: c/o Stylezi   Vest: (thrifted) DIY   Wedges: c/o My Hot Shoes

The warm weather is infecting my style, and I've felt very soft and girly lately, so its coming out in my wardrobe.
You know how long I've wanted some floral shoes in my closet? Well, when My Hot Shoes sent these over to me, I just had to wear them ASAP! Haha, they're so much fun. I adore the print and color of them. Funnily enough, the pedicure I gave myself happened to match. It was just meant to be!

So my story for today involves a conversation between me and my friends Kevin and Rueben. They came up with some interesting points that kind of stuck with me.
It was yesterday that Kevin made a comment about how he had to mix it up and couldn't be nice all the time. When I inquired as to what he meant, he told me, "You know, to keep a girl's interest a guy can't be sweet all the time. Otherwise she gets bored."

Yeah, my response was something along the lines of "WTF!?"

Then he asked Rueben for backup, and he joined in. After they explained it to me, I found it did make a little sense...sadly.

So their reasoning behind not being sweet all the time? Because if a guy is doing grand gestures constantly, he has to keep topping the last act of sweetness he did. Otherwise the girl won't appreciate the new show of affection if it doesn't supersede the last one.

Their theory is that if they act casual and not all lovey-dovey, the girl will appreciate it when they do show their sweet side.
I just told them they needed to find better girls to date. Haha, to which they responded, "What? You're not like that!?"
After some thought I said, " least I'd like to think I'm not."

I've been mulling over it though. See, having guy friends means you can get a glimpse into their minds, and its been interesting. At least now I can see how they think!
In a way, they had a point. I remember when Sam (my ex) would shower me with gifts and do constant acts of adoration. It actually got on my nerves after a while. Of course, it was because the attention got smothering and he acted quite possessive and controlling that made the relationship fall apart.

Personally, I think a guy can show his sweet side in a different way than just trying to buy your affection. And that's what I'd appreciate. Acts that are simple and heartfelt would be something I'd never grow bored of.

I'll have to tell them that the next time it comes up.
Haha, I think they need some guidance in how girl's think.

Anyway, that's my tidbit for today.
Hope you're having a lovely weekend!

Cute wedges! Haha, guys are much more simpleminded than us girls. But its the thought that counts. My boyfriend is always very sweet. Sometimes it makes me think I dont do enough for him!

haha yay, i'm glad that you actually read my posts :)
i completely agree with you (even though i don't exactly have much experience with guys), i would much not have my affection 'bought' through presents and stuff. but i would still want to date a sweet guy, but by a sweet guy i mean a nice and caring guy. i don't think that a guy is sweet just because he buys you crap haha. to me, a guy is sweet if he's there for you even when you don't really need him to be there and if he's willing to listen to you, even though he doesn't really want to hear you rant on and on about random crap.
anyway, i love your outfit! the wedges are gorgeous

Well it kinda makes sense what your friends said, though I think is not about being mean but just not be thaaaaat romantic all the time, there are acts of affection that girls usually ignore, but I guess everyone's different and so are the behaviors and thoughts... what ever, loved your wedges <3 so cute and you definitely are super girly lately,is good to change a bit sometimes but is always your style :) the dress is gorgeous <3

you always have such fabulous shoes!
as for the theory on constant adoration, I definitely think it gets old after a while. Their was one specific situation where this kid was the nicest guy I had ever met but he was so nice all the time that after a while it just didn't seem genuine. I actually had to tell him to stop complimenting me because it got so annoying! I think it just looses something after a while... : /

Theresa said...

Guys...are interesting.. I don't think we'll ever understand them fully. Sometimes I think they are a little more complicated than girls! i guess they do have a point; however, I personally like a guy that's just generally nice - i mean, don't overdo it.. but don't be completely bipolar and act nice and then a totally jerk the next moment because that's not entirely attractive anyway. boys.. haha
As for your outfit, it is completely adorable.. YOU HAVE THE BEST SHOES EVER! I love all your shoes in your outfits!!! (:

I love the chic touch the denim vest and floral wedges add to this dress, you look lovely as always !

Regarding your conversation with your guy friends, there's actually a whole science of evolutionary biology behind human mating behavior (I just coincidentally finished writing a paper on it 5 min ago). Males act that way with showering girls with gifts because females search for mates who will offer them the most resources so that when they mate they'll be able to be with someone who will support the offspring and not ditch and go (because essentially our evolutionary drive is to reproduce even though we're the only mammals that have sex for pleasure). There's this book called Sex at Dawn and The Red Queen they both do a great job exploring these topics, it's material that'll make you ponder about relationships in a very insightful way :)

hope all is well, and hope I didn't bore u with my geek-nerd side ;)

Love those floral wedges! :) they look fab with this casual outfit.

The love talks is so interesting! I think they have it a little wrong - I'd hate to be with someone who ignores me one day and is too sweet to me the next! They have to be themselves :) That way they don't have to put up an effort or get too tired out trying to be something they are not. :)
You don't need grand gestures or gifts to be sweet and nice and to be appreciated - the little things make a difference, just like you said :) A few compliments go a long way. I like that my husband still tells me I'm pretty even when I'm not - I'd take little things like that over being showered with gifts every day. :)

I love listening to the way a guys mind works. And I do agree with them on one end- it seems like if they do sweet things, a girl always expects them to top what they did last. I say just appreciate that they do sweet things at all. Nothing is worse than feeling unappreciated. ANYWAY, loving your dress and those shoes are fantastic! So perfect for spring.

LOL, thats a twisted logic - but I see the point - as they showed in the movie and the book He is not into you - girls are told from the childhood that if a guy is being mean to you - it is because he 'likes' you! LOL! go figure!!
BTW, love your wedges - so beautiful! Hope you are having a wonderful day!

What a cute outfit, the shoes are really adorable.. About your guy friends: I'm afraid they are (a little bit!) right, but in the spirit of love I don't think you should ever stop trying to make your partner happy. If he or she stops appreciating it, then they're possibly not the right one..

Really liking the vest.

And it is true what your friends say. I completely agree with them. Most (not all!) girls say they want a nice guy but they are often more attracted to assholes/deadbeats.

Why? There can be a variety of reasons such as but not limited to:
- father issues: their father wasn't there and they need a strong man in their life. They think they are with one but usually end up with some loser guy that tells her how much she means to him. When in reality he could give two shits and probably has another girl on the side. She is strung on by his words and need of love.

- mother issues: she feels like she needs to change a bad boy, make a good man out of him. She doesn't realize he will never change but she doesn't care! It's her JOB to change him!

- drama whore: Some girls just LOVE drama. They say the thing they hate most is drama but it's a lie! So they surround themselves with jerk off guys and BFF girl-frenemies. it's just a massive circle jerk of annoying drama

honestly girls dont really want a "nice" guy. they want an honest guy, someone to show them passion, love, etc. They only say "nice" because that is all they know how to describe a man. Because you can be nice and still be a lying asshole!

lol anddddd END RANT!

Anonymous said...

Haha! I couldn't agree with you more! They need to find different girls to date. Sweet guys are the best as long as they leave a little mystery. Don't be obvious. Be spontaneous and thoughtful. And honestly, if the girl really likes you, all of that stuff won't matter anyway. :)

Love the denim vest with this dress! Such a cute look that I would totally wear. And love those wedges! And your freshly painted toes reminds me that hubby owes me a pedicure for Mother's Day! <3
